It’s been a HUGE month with great progress getting us closer to opening parts of the park. Read on for more info on when public access will return and how you can help.
Harvesting is done! The last of the log trucks rolls out this week. Machinery continues to work within the park for clean-up and grading/widening of access roads and firebreaks. Significant earthworks have commenced at the lower carpark and new fencing and alignments installed. A select number of trails have seen some love from clubs through volunteer days, thank you to Insideline, GESA and Human Projectiles for their work so far and to BicycleSA for its upcoming Trailcare day on the 10th of April in prep for the Dirty Weekend 24hr event. Check https://www.facebook.com/BicycleSA or message them to get involved.
April will also see professional trail builders commence work on re-instating, reinforcing and where necessary, realigning existing trails. This will continue throughout the year and further trailcare days will be critical to bringing the entire trail network back.
Ok, but when can I ride in the Park? <Drum roll> The park will reopen for use on Sunday 11th April. Why not Saturday? Because there will be volunteers working on the tracks, so if you’re really keen to enter the park on Saturday, sign up to BicycleSA’s Trailcare day.
Please be aware that ForestrySA is providing a ‘phased’ opening of the park across 2021. Many of the Trails will still be closed. Temporary signage in the carpark areas will highlight the open areas and trails, please check them out before you ride. Even better, check the Trailforks App before you head to the park, we are now constantly updating track condition and status on Trailforks and have embedded the Trails Status widget in the Fox website https://foxcreekbikepark.com.au/trail-access/trail-status , so download it or check it prior to gearing up.
Open trails are only part of the equation, access at the upper and lower carparks will continue to be improved through minor and major works in preparation for future construction of amenities and better services. Road safety continues to be incredibly important, so please use Fox creek road and Croft road with diligence and with respect to residents and other road users. We are working with Adelaide Hills Council to significantly improve the entry/exit of the lower car park, which will also be completed in stages to allow for access to remain open during works.
Up top, a new secondary ‘private shuttle’ (Ute/Shuttlepig) turnaround has been established on Croft Road. This will improve safety and direct access to the DH trails so those little legs don’t get tired from the ups. The area will be turnaround and unload only, no standing/Sag discussion. Commercial shuttles will use the top carpark as previous.
We’re getting excited about re-opening the park and looking to the future of Fox which includes new Trail options, facilities (yes, toilets!) and greater bushfire resilience for the environment and the community.
Your local clubs and Vollie groups are all co-ordinating to stand up Trail care days, so get in touch with them to sign up to helping bring Fox back better.
